It was 12:30 or maybe 1am, we didn't notice the time because we were too distracted by the strong, progressive sound of Taimur & Fahad. The next thing that grabbed our attention was Josh Wink's looming presence. Our neighbor from the south - who is no stranger to NYC DJ booths - attaching his effects processor to the console. The small crowd in an intimate room swelled immediately after Wink arrived. He took over the decks as the fans screamed "finally!"

Dun dun dun dun dun... is what we heard from Josh Wink that night. Hands were in the air, dust was kicked up, whistles being blown, but most of all, the beats were flowing, bouncing, and reverberating. The night's headliner had a very good set, building tension at every break and releasing the tightly wound coil, heating up the room full of undulating dancers. We remember the clubbers yelling "faster!" as a mechanical laugh spun off the CD while Josh Wink was mixing forward. Toward the end, the set turned to House. Though the bass lines were nearly as driving as before, it did calm the mood a little before Sleepy & Boo came on, well after the 3am cutoff. After several not-hard-enough, not-fast-enough sets that we've seen, Wink delivered relentless energy - if you weren't there, then you most definitely missed out. In a weeks time, Basic NYC will continue their year of banging line-ups with Audiofly, we'll be there to bring you the details.
